Day 8 Bouncing between Basel & Bad Bellingen

Rheinfelden to Bad Bellingen 31 miles

A bit of a reprieve of today as we slowed it down and cut our ambitions back a bit.    Our wonderful hosts kept on living up to my hype by providing us a great breakfast and more great conversation before sending us on our way.   We were relaxed knowing we didn't have too far to push into our first major city along the Rhine, Basel Switzerland.  Before acting like full on tourists, we had misplaced our bike lock so it was off to a bike shop for a replacement.   After emerging from the shop with a new lock. Greta looked for a place to keep it and wouldn't you know it, found our missing lock.  Having just ripped the packaging off, we now have 2 locks.  Making our way to the Marketplatz, we were greeted with a plethora of food truck options.  Greta likes hot dogs.  I don't care for them personally but I kid you not when I say this was the best hot dog/brat thing I've ever had, like by a mile.  Some things are just better in Europe.  After exploring more of the town and the Munster Cathedral, we made our way back into Germany.   The flooding on the Rhine caught up to us and soon our path  was underwater.  After our third detour and fourth attempt to return to the Rhine being impassable we finally retreated away from the river and opted for vineyard laden hills instead finally landing at Bad Bellingen where a guesthaus landed us just across from another thermal soaking bath.  So Bellingen isn't so "Bad" after all.   I initially felt bad for the folks of Bad Bellingen for always having to feel "Bad" about their name, that is, until I learned that Bad just means Bath.   So now I'll be on the lookout for more "bad" places!  We soaked our weary bones and are now ready to invade France tomorrow.  Can't wait to try their fries!

The kindest of souls

He's thinking, " I can't believe I agreed to pet-sit her cat.  She's thinking "He's nice, I might like this guy if he could only get a decent haircut!"

Could you imagine carrying laundry up to the top floor of these houses?

Nekked Frescos abound in Basel

I'll need a boat for that trail
